James Bond producers are set to make a MAJOR change for next 007 theme song

James Bond's newest theme song is set to make a drastic break away from the movie franchise's sorrowful ballads of old - at least if producer Barbara Broccoli has her way.

While the producer, 62, who creates the Bond franchise with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, is still on the hunt for the perfect star to fill 007's shoes after Daniel Craig stepped down from the role, she is understood to have been working hard on some new ideas for the theme song.

The most recent Bond movies starring Craig, 56, have been accompanied by very soulful ballads - but now, Barbara is said to be keen to 'mix it up' in an attempt to lure in new fans to the spy franchise.

'Barbara is very interested in having the next Bond theme to be more fun, more pop rock and not filled with as much sorrow as the last few themes have been,' a source told DailyMail.com.

The source added that Barbara 'loves' what pop icons Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, and Adele have done in the past with iconic 007 tunes, but doesn't want to rest on her laurels as far as their successes are concerned.

'It would be safe to go down that path again, especially since they all won the Oscar,' the source continued.

'But this next Bond needs to mix it up and return to having a song in the vein of Duran Duran's, A View to a Kill,' they added.

According the source, the Bond theme needs to be an anthem - but also upbeat and able to both 'resonate with both established fans of the series and new fans as well.'

'Barbara feels someone like Bruno Mars or The Weeknd could do something fun, or a band like the Foo Fighters or Adam Levine by himself or with Maroon 5 could have a catchy and fun theme,' the source mused.

They added the famed producer knows that being offered a Bond theme is a 'once-in-a-lifetime experience' for any artist and she's eager to find a younger star to fulfil the converted position.

'Barbara knows that being offered to do a Bond theme is a for any artist and she wants to go younger, and whoever gets the final call, it will be because it is different from what is has been in the last several films,' they explained.

'That is the one must that needs to be met when they do the theme for the next movie, it needs to be an exciting song that is remembered forever.'

In 2020, Billie Eilish became the youngest person to ever perform a title track for the spy film series, which began in 1962. Fans raved that the track gave them 'chills' and praised her haunting take on the Bond theme song. Billie wrote the song No Time to Die with her brother Finneas, and the two also created her debut album together.

'It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honor,' Eilish said in a statement at the time.

Recently, Lana Del Rey revealed that she wrote a theme song for the James Bond film Spectre - but it was rejected in favor of Sam Smith''s Writing's On The Wall.

The singer, 38, wrote the track, which featured on her 2015 album Honeymoon, for Daniel Craig's penultimate run as 007.

Speaking the Ivor Novello Awards, Lana, who won the Special International Award, was asked by the BBC why she hasn't performed a Bond theme.

Lana replied: 'I mean, how has that not happened? I wrote [24] for them.' The track ended up on her fourth studio album Honeymoon.

She continued: 'Sam, you did a wonderful job. One day, maybe... But I'm going to continue to do my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend it's the title track.'

The Eon Productions reportedly planned to start filming the next James Bond film, within 2024.

While it has been widely reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 33, has been formally offered the role of the ultra-suave British spy, nothing has been confirmed yet.
